Residents, staff, and family members at Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a delightful day of nostalgia on Thursday 10th April as they were transported back in time for a special ‘Back to School’ reminiscence session with guest speaker Simon Waterfield.

The event took place in the home’s beautiful garden, where residents gathered to enjoy an engaging talk on school life in days gone by. Simon, dressed authentically as a traditional headmaster, brought along a fascinating collection of vintage school artefacts – including an old brown desk complete with inkwell, classic storybooks such as Janet & John, school reports, and even a skipping rope.

Simon has previously visited Rosedale Court to speak about World War II and was such a hit with everyone that they couldn’t wait to invite him back to take the residents on a trip back to their childhood.

The event was met with glowing praise from both residents and visitors. Family member Joanne simply described it as “Fantastic,” and resident Jean shared, “I love listening and reminiscing with this gentleman, he is so good.”

One of the standout moments came when residents enjoyed playing with traditional conkers – a cherished pastime for many. In a moment of laughter and light-hearted fun, residents nominated Louise to demonstrate the skipping rope, resulting in plenty of cheers and giggles as she had a go.
The day was filled with fun, laughter, and meaningful conversations as residents shared school-day memories, rekindled forgotten pastimes, and connected with one another through shared experiences.
