Silvanna Court Care Home, continues to build strong intergenerational connections with the local community, recently attending a heartwarming school production of Mary Poppins performed by Year 6 students at Abacus Primary School.
Resident Jean Cooper, accompanied by Lifestyle Coordinator and Dementia Champion Leah, was warmly invited by Headteacher and Dementia Champion Lead, Heidi, to attend the afternoon performance held yesterday. The invitation was part of Silvanna Court’s ongoing partnership with Abacus School, supporting their Young Dementia Champions initiative.
Jean expressed her gratitude, saying she felt “privileged to be invited to such a spectacular event.” Leah echoed the sentiment, describing the afternoon as “an honour – to be in the presence of such talented young people, all just 10 or 11 years old.”
The play was filled with memorable moments, including a standout performance from the young girl who played Mary Poppins, praised for her incredible singing talent. One student performed with a broken collarbone, showing true dedication, while another stepped into a role at the last minute, learning all the lines the night before, both shining examples of resilience and teamwork.
Events like this help foster meaningful connections between generations and reaffirm Silvanna Court’s commitment to community engagement. Leah added, “It’s vital to continue supporting Abacus and our young dementia champions, strengthening our relationship and inspiring mutual respect across ages.”
The atmosphere throughout the event was, in Leah’s words, “absolutely fabulous.”
Silvanna Court looks forward to many more collaborations with Abacus Primary School and is proud to be part of such an inspiring and inclusive community effort.
