Residents at Mulberry Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, supported by the Lifestyle team and family members, have been putting sustainability into action with an ongoing upcycling project as part of the Runwood Homes Group’s green initiative.
Led by Kirsty Edgar, lifestyle coordinator, the project encourages residents to repurpose everyday waste items into practical and creative features for the garden. From turning old containers into planters to crafting decorative garden pieces, the initiative has not only helped reduce waste but also brought new energy and collaboration into the home.
“The atmosphere was lovely,” shared Kirsty, “Especially as the weather hadn’t been great leading up to it. It was good to get some fresh air on the lungs and vitamin D on the skin.”
For resident Iris, the activity was a chance for her to reminisce on her gardening days back in Norfolk.
The idea stemmed from the wider Runwood Homes commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. More than just an eco-conscious activity, the project has also proven to be mentally stimulating and socially enriching for residents.
This ongoing initiative highlights Mulberry Court’s dedication to both person-centred care and environmental responsibility, showing that small, mindful actions can blossom into something truly special.
