The Mill House Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, brought colour, culture, and celebration to the winter months with a vibrant Mexican-themed lunch event, offering residents and staff an opportunity to come together and enjoy a lively shared experience.

The event took place on 14 January 2026 and was organised by Emma, Lifestyle Coordinator at The Mill House, with support from Karen, the Chef, alongside the wider kitchen, care, and management teams. Residents were involved in preparing decorations ahead of the day, helping to create a festive and inclusive atmosphere.

On the day, residents and staff enjoyed a Mexican street food–inspired lunch, with themed decorations, colourful outfits, and Mexican Fiesta music setting the tone. The event was designed to be sensory and engaging, encouraging residents to explore new flavours, enjoy upbeat music, and connect socially in a relaxed and joyful setting.

Residents and staff shared very positive feedback. One resident commented, “What a great idea and lovely to try food from different cultures,” while another added, “I love the decorations and the music is really good too.” A member of staff noted, “Such a nice event to involve the staff team and residents for a celebration and way to get together.” Another resident described it as, “Such a nice way to bring some cheer and excitement to brighten up January.”

Emma highlighted the importance of themed events in promoting wellbeing and connection, particularly during the winter months when activities are often based indoors. The event supported cultural learning, sensory stimulation, and emotional wellbeing, while strengthening the sense of community within the home.

The idea for the Mexican-themed lunch came from The Mill House’s ongoing commitment to organising themed meals and events, with this being the third such celebration so far. These

events provide a fun and

accessible way for residents and staff to try something new together.

The atmosphere throughout the day was described as party-like, celebratory, lively, and connected.
