Mulberry Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, hosted a delightful Carwash and BBQ event on Saturday, 1st July 2024. The event aimed to raise essential funds for the residents’ amenities fund, bringing together residents, carers, families, and the local community for a day filled with joy and community spirit.
The day began in the car park of Mulberry Court, where a spirited carwash took place. Residents’ families, staff, and even passing members of the public enthusiastically participated, scrubbing and polishing cars to perfection. Notably, Maureen, a resident of Mulberry Court, had her daughters there who were a tremendous help, joking about paying to wash their own cars, which added a light-hearted and humorous touch to the event.
Following the successful carwash, attendees moved to Mulberry Court’s beautiful garden for a summer BBQ. The garden provided a serene and picturesque setting, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy delicious food in the warm sunshine. The BBQ was a hit, fostering conversations, laughter, and a sense of togetherness among all participants. The neighbours of Watermead Road commented, “What a wonderful idea, we hope this happens on a regular basis.”
The carwash and BBQ were particularly meaningful for one resident who used to be a chauffeur, as it brought back cherished memories of cleaning and polishing cars. This sense of normality and the fun in the sun, with occasional splashes of water, made the day unforgettable for him and many others.
Karan, one of the residents and Maureen’s daughter, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “Looking forward to doing the next one.” Her words reflect the positive impact and success of the event, highlighting the community’s eagerness for future gatherings.
The funds raised from the Carwash and BBQ event will directly benefit the residents by enhancing their amenities and providing more enjoyable and enriching activities and facilities. This initiative not only generated valuable funds but also strengthened the bonds within the Mulberry Court community.
