Residents, families, and staff at Longview Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on 14th February for a heartfelt Valentine’s Day celebration—not just to honour love, but also to remember those who are no longer with us.
The conservatory was beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting space for the event. Residents enjoyed Valentine’s-themed treats, including classic Love Hearts, while an accordion player filled the room with romantic melodies. As a special tribute, residents wrote personal messages to their late loved ones and attached them to helium balloons, which were then released into the sky.
Lifestyle Coordinator Jessica, who helped organise the event, shared the inspiration behind it: “Valentine’s Day is traditionally about couples, but we wanted to create a space for our residents to remember and honour the loved ones they have lost. It was a truly special and meaningful experience for everyone involved.”
For many, the most touching moment of the day was when the accordion player performed Edelweiss from The Sound of Music—a song that brought smiles, nostalgia, and even a few happy tears.
Resident Doreen, expressed how much the day meant to her: “I loved the music and loved releasing a balloon with a note to my late husband. It was lovely to spend time remembering him on Valentine’s Day.”
The event, planned by the Lifestyle Team in collaboration with residents, created a calm and reflective atmosphere, allowing everyone to cherish precious memories and celebrate love in all its forms.
Longview Care Home remains committed to providing meaningful experiences that honour both the past and present, ensuring that every resident feels loved, valued, and connected.
