Throughout the month of February, residents and the lifestyle team at Silvanna Court embraced the theme “Friends in the Community”, organising a series of heartwarming activities aimed at giving back to their local community.

The initiative began with residents Reg and Sue, who volunteered at the Salvation Army food bank. They spent the day helping to pack and distribute food, and both expressed how fulfilling it was to be able to assist others. This was followed by Sheila and Sue lending a hand at the Sue Ryder Charity Shop, sorting donations and engaging with customers. Residents also participated in a bake sale organised by Abacus School, where they spent time with young Dementia Champions, and visited a local SEN café in Wickford that provides work experience for young people with learning difficulties.

One of the most memorable moments came with the “Kindness Pebbles” initiative. The residents decorated pebbles with messages of kindness and placed them in Wickford Memorial Park, encouraging finders to share a photo and rehide them for others to find. The joy of receiving photos of their pebbles being found and passed on by members of the community was a highlight for all involved.

The idea for this month of giving back was born from a residents’ meeting, where they discussed ways to make a positive impact on the community. The residents found great joy in being able to help and connect with others, proving that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
