On Friday 28th March, a group of residents, staff, and local family members from Four Acres Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, took part in a community litter-picking event. The initiative, part of the ongoing ‘Runwood Ramblers’ walking club, saw participants stroll around the local village, collecting litter and helping make the area a cleaner, more welcoming place.

The event was attended by 5 residents, 2 members of staff, and 3 family members. Everyone involved worked together to collect litter while enjoying a lovely afternoon out in the fresh air.

Kayleigh Hobbis, Lifestyle Coordinator, organised this event as the residents at Four Acres love being part of community efforts. One of the participating residents, Irene, said that she “really enjoyed coming out and cleaning up the community.”

This event was a wonderful opportunity for residents to engage with the community, creating a cleaner environment while boosting their sense of purpose and contribution. It was particularly important to help residents feel more connected to the village, all while promoting a sense of pride and achievement.

The atmosphere was lively and full of energy, with the residents beaming with smiles as they walked around the village. After the event, they eagerly shared their experience, telling everyone they had helped clean up the area. It was a joyful and rewarding experience for all involved.

One of the most touching moments of the day was seeing the genuine smiles on the residents’ faces as they took part in the clean-up. Their pride in the work they had done was visible, and it was a true highlight of the event.
