Residents from Silvanna Court Care Home, part of Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a memorable day out to Southend-on-Sea yesterday, with a visit designed to celebrate dignity and mobility; two themes at the heart of Silvanna’s commitment to resident wellbeing.
The trip took six residents on a scenic walk along the seafront before they experienced the unique Cliff Lift, a wheelchair-accessible lift that transported them to a breathtaking viewpoint high above the shoreline.
The trip was inspired by residents themselves, who expressed a desire to visit Southend. Leah, Lifestyle Coordinator and Deputy Manager, Deby at Silvanna Court worked together to develop an experience that would empower residents to engage physically and emotionally, encouraging movement and a sense of adventure.
“It’s amazing and such a good idea!” said resident Reg.
Another resident, Pauline, couldn’t hide her delight, exclaiming, “We are up so high! What a nice view,” while smiling throughout the entire ride up the cliff. This was a particularly moving moment for the team, as she had believed her wheelchair would prevent her from taking part.
Leah Clark reflected on the significance of the day:
“Promoting mobility and confidence is essential in supporting our residents’ independence. Outings like this give them the chance to do something they may have thought was no longer possible and that is truly empowering.”
The atmosphere throughout the day was full of excitement. It was a clear reminder of the joy that comes from encouraging residents to explore new possibilities beyond the home.
