To celebrate Arts in Care Homes Month, the Runwood Homes Group hosted two unforgettable concerts at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Benfleet, bringing together over 70 residents, families, and staff from multiple homes. The events showcased the remarkable power of music to uplift and inspire communities.

Attendees enjoyed a lively and heartwarming program, including performances from residents who had been practicing songs since January, followed by a performance from Western and Country music singer Natalie. Lunch was shared after the concert, fostering a sense of camaraderie and celebration.

Music therapists highlight that every human being is inherently musical, with our connection to rhythm and melody beginning even before birth. At the “Homes in Harmony” concerts, this universal language was on full display,  lifting spirits, evoking cherished memories, and creating beautiful, shared moments for all present.

Earlier in the week, the Runwood Homes Group also celebrated Arts in Care Homes Month with an art exhibition at Harlow Library, proving that creativity and artistic expression play an essential role in resident wellbeing.

Special thanks go to Cathy Ranson of Stafford Hall for providing the beautiful church venue, and to Cathy Sahadevan of The Grange, the choir master whose dedication and expertise made the performances possible. Additional gratitude is extended to Donna Winterbourne and Donna Selby for providing homemade sandwiches, and to all residents, families, and staff who contributed to making these events a memorable success.

“Music is more than just sound; it’s a vital part of our well-being and a wonderful way to express ourselves and connect with one another,” said Kieun Kwon, Associate Director of Wellbeing and Dementia Services. “These concerts were a perfect reminder of the joy, connection, and shared experiences that music can bring to our lives.”
