Residents and staff from Stafford Hall came together this September to celebrate Homes in Harmony, a joyful community singing event held at the historic St Mary’s Church in Benfleet.
The event took place across two dates, 12 and 17 September, and welcomed participants from Longview, The Grange, Broomhills, Stafford Hall, and Head Office. Residents sang and danced to their favourite tunes, creating one harmonious choir. They were also treated to a special performance by singer Natalie Hill, who delighted the audience with country and old-time classics. The Deputy Mayor attended as a guest of honour, alongside Kate and John Knott, adding to the sense of celebration.
The atmosphere throughout both days was described as buzzing and lively. Frances Gregory said: “I loved singing with everyone and loved being in the church as it was such a lovely old building.” Ron Jackson added: “It’s been a really nice day, a success all round!” Meanwhile, Jean Strutt joked: “I’ve never done this kind of singing in church before, I hope the big man upstairs won’t tell us off.”
Lifestyle Coordinator Catherine Ranson, explained the importance of the gathering: “It was a wonderful chance to raise our spirits, connect with one another, and celebrate through song in such a beautiful setting. Watching residents and staff dancing together, cheering, and smiling made us all feel like one big happy family.”
The idea for Homes in Harmony was inspired by online singing sessions held during lockdown. After discussing these with Kieun Kwon, the decision was made to bring the concept into the church, creating an uplifting event that celebrated togetherness.
