Residents at Highview Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, were treated to a truly special visit on Monday, 3rd November 2025, when Gizzy the Shetland pony trotted into the home to meet residents, staff, and visitors.
Gizzy brought smiles and joy to everyone she met. The gentle pony calmly visited residents in both their rooms and communal areas, happily receiving pets and cuddles from all. It was clear that Gizzy enjoyed the visit just as much as the residents did!
Resident Doreen shared her delight, saying:
“I absolutely love horses, I used to ride when I was younger. It was nice that she came to my room to see me; it gave me goosebumps seeing a horse again.”
The visit was hugely important as having animals visit the home can have a hugely positive impact on the wellbeing of residents. Interacting with animals can lift mood, reduce stress, and bring back happy memories.
The visit came about after one of the residents’ relatives recommended the idea, and the result was a truly heart-warming afternoon filled with smiles. The visit reflects Highview Lodge’s commitment to listening to recommendations from the community and providing new ways to improve the wellbeing of residents.
