Residents at Ashwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently took part in a heart-warming intergenerational initiative, exchanging Christmas cards and letters with students from Chauncy School to spread festive cheer and strengthen community connections.
Commenting on the initiative, Carly, Lifestyle Coordinator at Ashwood Care Home, said the project was a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
“The students from Chauncy School loved reading the letter from our residents, especially learning about our gnomes in the home and our Christmas traditions,” Carly said.
In the lead-up to Christmas, residents at Ashwood Care Home made and wrote Christmas cards along with a letter to the local secondary school. The students responded by creating their own Christmas cards, which were exchanged and delivered to the school just before the Christmas break.
The idea for the initiative came from a resident who asked if there were any children she could send Christmas cards to. This thoughtful suggestion inspired a meaningful project aimed at building intergenerational relationships between residents and local students.
Residents and students were both actively involved, making the exchange a shared and inclusive experience. One particularly special moment was when resident Eileen delivered the cards to the school, an experience that brought her great happiness.
This festive initiative highlights Ashwood Care Home’s commitment to community engagement and creating meaningful connections that enrich the lives of residents and those around them, especially during the Christmas season.
