Residents from Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a seaside bus trip on 9 January 2026, embracing all the charm of a traditional British day out despite wet and windy weather.
The outing saw residents travel from Chalkwell to Southend, where they took in views of the rough winter seas before stopping for a hearty fish and chip lunch at Ye Olde Chippy. The day was perfectly rounded off with a much-loved Rossi ice cream, a highlight that brought plenty of smiles and laughter. The group also enjoyed a drive around the town centre, admiring the colourful wall art decorating local buildings.
The trip was organised following residents’ wishes to enjoy fish and chips in Southend, a familiar and much-loved destination known for its traditional seaside food.
Louise, Lifestyle Lead at Rosedale Court, commented:
“Even though the weather was wet and windy, it was still so important for our residents to get out for some fresh air and enjoy a classic seaside experience. Fish and chips followed by a Rossi ice cream is proper British tradition, and everyone had such a wonderful time.”
The day was made extra special by the involvement of residents Charlie, Lenny, Pat, Marion, Barry, Gladys, Jean and Anne, along with family members of Jean and Gladys, who joined in the fun.
The joy of the trip was reflected in the feedback shared by residents, families and the local community:
- “Thank you for a lovely day, it was great to have a fish and chip lunch with my wife Jean and we both loved getting a Rossi ice cream!” – Terry, family member
- “The lunch was lovely and so big! Had a great day with mum.” – Julie
- “It’s so good you brought everyone out for lunch today and they look so happy.” – Staff at Ye Olde Chippy
- “I’ve had such a great day and really enjoyed myself, thank you.” – Barry, Resident
- “Southend has changed so much from when I used to live here.” – Anne, Resident
A standout moment of the day came when resident Lenny teamed up with Louise to help collect everyone’s ice creams at Rossi, a small gesture that perfectly captured the warm, fun-loving atmosphere of the trip.
Rosedale Court continues to prioritise meaningful outings that promote wellbeing, connection, and enjoyment, whatever the weather.
