Alexandra House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group,  is celebrating a truly special and heart-warming outing after making one resident’s long-held wish come true, experiencing ice skating for the very first time.

On 14 January 2026, resident Eddie enjoyed his first-ever ice-skating experience thanks to the dedication and support of Lifestyle Coordinators Jo and Julie, who organised and supported the memorable trip after Eddie expressed his desire to try ice skating.

The idea for the outing came directly from Eddie himself, after seeing previous trips and sharing that he had always loved the idea of ice skating but had never had the opportunity to experience it.

The atmosphere on the day was filled with joy, laughter, and excitement, as Jo and Julie supported Eddie around the ice in his wheelchair, creating a fun, inclusive, and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Commenting on the experience, Jo, Lifestyle Coordinator at Alexandra House, said:

“Doing outings like this makes me realise why I love my job. Seeing Eddie enjoy himself so much and be part of this experience was incredibly special.”

Eddie also shared his excitement following the outing, saying:

“I had the most amazing time. I have never been ice-skating before and to do it now was really special.”

This meaningful experience reflects Alexandra House’s commitment to person-centred care, where residents’ wishes, interests, and aspirations are at the heart of everything they do. Creating opportunities for residents to enjoy new experiences, fulfil lifelong wishes, and build joyful memories plays a vital role in emotional wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life.

Alexandra House continues to create meaningful moments that go beyond daily care, supporting independence, choice and joy for all residents.
