Kathryn Court care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, continues to strengthen the spiritual, emotional, and social wellbeing of its residents through its much-valued monthly church service, delivered in partnership with St Andrews and Shoebury and Thorpe Bay Baptist Church, led by Reverends Jo and Louise.

The most recent service took place on Thursday 15 January at 2pm, bringing together residents, families, staff, and members of the local community for a peaceful and reflective afternoon of worship and togetherness.

During the service, residents listened to the story of St Paul, reflecting on his life, faith, and message. The reading encouraged thoughts of hope, perseverance, kindness, and belief, offering comfort and reassurance to many residents who found the message deeply meaningful.

The atmosphere throughout the service was calm, welcoming, and uplifting. Residents joined in with familiar hymns, sang along with smiles, listened attentively to prayers and readings, and shared quiet moments of reflection. The familiar routines and rituals created a strong sense of comfort, belonging, and emotional security.

Commenting on the importance of the service, Donna, Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Kathryn Court, said:

“For many of our residents, faith is a lifelong part of their identity. Providing a church service in the home allows them to continue practicing their beliefs, especially for those who may no longer be able to attend church in the community due to their mobility, their health, or their cognitive challenges. This helps residents feel respected, valued, and understood as whole people, not just cared for physically.”

The idea for the service came directly from residents themselves and has been an ongoing request for many years, reflecting the importance of faith, spirituality, and community connection within the home.

The monthly church service also strengthens relationships between residents, families, staff, and the wider community, helping to reduce isolation and ensuring residents remain connected to the world beyond the care home.

Kathryn Court remains committed to providing holistic, person-centred care that supports every aspect of wellbeing, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual, ensuring residents are able to live meaningful, dignified, and fulfilled lives.
