Residents and staff from Bramwell Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a memorable and informative visit to Highfields Fire Station on 30 January 2026 at 10:30am, strengthening community connections and learning more about fire safety in a welcoming and engaging environment.

During the visit, residents were given a guided tour of the station, had the opportunity to see the fire engines up close, watch demonstrations of equipment, and spend time chatting with firefighters over tea and snacks. The visit followed regular visits from Highfields Fire Station to Bramwell Care Home, where firefighters frequently engage residents through exercises, demonstrations and friendly conversations.

Residents were full of praise for the experience. Mavis, a resident, said:

“The visit was fantastic; I enjoyed every minute. I want to visit again; the explanation was marvellous.”

Another resident, Barbara, added:

“It was very enjoyable. We were shown all the new equipment and learnt about the water resources.”

The visit played an important role in supporting residents’ understanding of fire safety in a calm and friendly way. Meeting firefighters and seeing equipment up close can help reduce fear and anxiety, particularly around alarms or drills within a care home setting. It also reinforced strong links between Bramwell Care Home and local emergency services.

The idea for the visit came about following previous fire service visits to Bramwell Care Home, where residents showed great interest and curiosity during demonstrations. When firefighters invited residents to visit the station, the response was an enthusiastic “yes.”

The atmosphere throughout the visit was lively and positive, with residents clearly delighted as they explored the station, asked questions, and interacted with the firefighters, making it a truly enriching community experience.
