Leawood Manor Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, welcomed a very special visitor on 6 February 2025, as residents enjoyed a memorable visit from Cupcake the Shetland Pony, delivered in partnership with Julie and John from Pet a Pony.

Residents, staff and visitors were delighted as Cupcake spent time around the home, offering residents the chance to stroke her, ask questions, and enjoy a truly unique and interactive experience. The visit sparked lively conversations, laughter and moments of genuine connection, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere throughout the home.

Animal visits such as this play an important role in supporting residents’ emotional and social wellbeing. Interacting with animals can lift spirits, encourage reminiscence and stimulate conversation, all of which are especially meaningful in a care home setting. During Cupcake’s visit, residents showed great curiosity, asking about her age, care routine and personality, helping to foster engagement, purpose and shared enjoyment.

Sue, Lifestyle Coordinator at Leawood Manor, said:

“It was wonderful to see our residents’ faces light up during a visit from the Shetland pony. It was such a different activity from our usual routine, and the smiles, laughter, and conversations she sparked reminded me how important these moments of connection are. Residents loved asking about her age, how she’s cared for, and simply enjoying stroking and spending time with her. Experiences like this bring joy, curiosity, and a real sense of togetherness to our home.”

The visit from Cupcake created lasting memories and reinforced Leawood Manor’s commitment to providing engaging, enriching experiences that enhance quality of life for everyone in the home.
