Bramwell Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, were delighted to welcome Nottinghamshire Police and their police dog, Cooper, on 10 February 2026 for a special visit that brought smiles, comfort and meaningful engagement to residents, families and staff.

The visit was initiated following conversations with two Bramwell Care Home residents who are former police officers. As part of the home’s person-centred approach to care, these discussions highlighted the importance of recognising residents’ professional backgrounds and the positive memories they hold, particularly involving police dogs. In response, the team arranged the visit to support reminiscence, emotional wellbeing and shared experiences across the home.

Cooper quickly became the centre of attention, offering plenty of tail wags and affection. Residents enjoyed stroking him, watching him interact with his handler, and asking questions about his role within the police force. The visit sparked lively conversations, with many residents sharing stories of pets they had owned and, for some, reflecting on their own time serving in the police.

The atmosphere throughout the home was warm, animated and engaging. Residents chatted with staff, families and one another, creating genuine moments of connection and happiness.

Mable, Home Manager at Bramwell Care Home, commented:

“This is so important as animals bring instant joy for our residents, stroking a dog or watching it interact can lift mood, reduce anxiety and create genuine moments of happiness. Those positive emotions can last well beyond the visit. The dogs give everyone something to talk about. Residents chat with staff, with each other, and share memories of pets they have had in the past.”

Bramwell Care Home remains committed to creating enriching experiences that celebrate residents’ life stories, encourage community involvement and promote wellbeing through engaging, person-centred activities.WhatsApp Image 2026 02 10 at 13.42.01 1 Wellbeing Bramwell
