Residents at Leawood Manor Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a hands-on ceramic coaster making session on 13 February 2025. The creative activity brought residents together for an engaging afternoon of design, conversation, and artistic expression.

The session offered residents a meaningful opportunity to showcase their individuality by designing and creating their own ceramic coasters. Activities like this promote independence and personal achievement, allowing each participant to craft something unique and truly their own.

Beyond the creative element, the workshop strengthened bonds within the home. Sitting side by side, sharing ideas, and admiring one another’s designs sparked natural moments of connection. These shared experiences help nurture friendships and reinforce a strong sense of community throughout the home.

Completing a handmade item also brought a genuine sense of pride. Each finished coaster serves as a tangible reminder of residents’ creativity. That feeling of accomplishment can play an important role in boosting confidence and overall wellbeing.

Sue, Wellbeing Lead at Leawood Manor, said:

“It was wonderful to see everyone so engaged and proud of what they created. Designing their own ceramic coasters gave residents the chance to express themselves, share ideas, and enjoy each other’s company. The smiles when they saw their finished pieces said it all — it wasn’t just about making something beautiful, it was about the sense of achievement and togetherness we felt as a group.”
