Silvanna Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is delighted to share the success of its weekly therapy dog visits, bringing comfort, companionship, and joy to residents every Tuesday afternoon.
The initiative features Jill and her friendly therapy dog, Fred, who make their way throughout the home, visiting lounges and residents’ bedrooms to ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part. Residents are encouraged to interact with Fred in a way that suits them, whether that’s gently stroking his soft fur, offering treats, or simply enjoying his calming presence.
Residents have responded warmly to the visits, with many finding the experience both comforting and nostalgic.
“We love seeing the therapy dog—it reminds me of my dogs I once had. I loved walking my dogs every day,” shared resident Maureen.
Therapy dogs are known to provide emotional and sensory benefits, particularly for older adults. At Silvanna Court, Fred’s visits help evoke fond memories of past pet ownership, while his gentle nature and soft fur create a calming and reassuring experience for residents.
Silvanna Court remains committed to enriching the lives of its residents through engaging, meaningful activities that promote wellbeing, connection, and joy.
