Blackthorns Residents Enjoy Engaging Storytelling Session

Residents at Blackthorns Care Home in Halstead, part of the Runwood Homes Group, were transported into imaginative worlds during a captivating storytelling session led by storyteller Mike on Wednesday 5th August.

The bespoke session was organised following a suggestion from one of the home’s residents, who expressed an interest in literature and poetry. Blackthorn’s Home Manager supported the idea, creating an opportunity for residents with a shared passion for stories to come together for an engaging afternoon.

A core group of residents gathered to listen as Mike shared two enchanting tales. The first followed a young girl who discovered a secret place hidden within the woods, culminating in the exciting moment she found a special tree bearing three golden apples. Residents were captivated by the adventure and eagerly followed every twist in the story. The second tale explored the wisdom of life, illustrating how stories naturally evolve and change as they are passed across different countries and cultures.

The atmosphere throughout the session was fun, lively and engaging, with residents fully immersed in the storytelling. The event encouraged conversation, imagination and reflection, while providing meaningful stimulation for those who attended.

Residents praised the experience afterwards, with one commenting that Mike was “a very good storyteller.”

Blackthorns continues to provide meaningful, person-centred activities that reflect the individual interests of its residents, helping to promote wellbeing, social interaction and lifelong enjoyment.
