Residents, staff, relatives and members of the local community at Alexandra House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, enjoyed a fantastic day of sunshine, teamwork and fundraising during a lively car wash event held on 26 May 2026.
The car wash was organised to raise funds for Alexandra House’s residents’ activity fund, helping to provide entertainment, outings and enjoyable experiences both within and outside the home.
The idea was revisited following its huge success last year and after residents specifically requested it return. Their enthusiasm made it clear this was an event everyone was eager to enjoy again.
Residents and relatives were full of praise for the day. One resident said: “I used to love cleaning my car.” Another resident added: “This was a very fun day and I love sitting in the sunshine.” A relative also commented: “Thank you, my car is shining.”
The atmosphere throughout the day was joyful and energetic, despite soaring temperatures on what was recorded as the hottest day of May. Staff, residents, relatives and members of the wider community embraced the sunshine and worked together to make the event a success.
A standout highlight was seeing residents actively taking part, helping to soap up the cars and using the jet wash, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone involved.
Events like this are especially important at Alexandra House, not only for raising valuable funds but also for creating meaningful opportunities for residents to engage, socialise and enjoy fulfilling experiences that strengthen the sense of community within the home.
