Alexandra House Residents Take on One Million Step Challenge for Dementia Awareness

Residents and staff at Alexandra House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, have taken their first steps towards an ambitious goal this October, as the Strawberry Unit launches its One Million Step Challenge to raise awareness of dementia and support the Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge will see Alexandra House residents, staff and families come together throughout October to collectively achieve one million steps while raising funds for people living with dementia and their loved ones. By bringing residents, staff, families and friends together, the initiative also provides a meaningful way for everyone to contribute to a cause that affects so many people and families.

The Strawberry Unit, which provides care for people living with dementia, chose the initiative as a way to build on Alexandra House residents’ enjoyment of walking and everyday movement, turning an important part of daily life into a shared activity with a meaningful purpose.

The Alexandra House team recently completed its first community walk to Harlow Town Centre, giving residents and staff the opportunity to enjoy time outdoors and begin working towards their one million step target.

A spokesperson for the initiative said: “It was lovely to see residents and staff from Alexandra House Care Home out enjoying the community together. The Strawberry Unit’s One Million Step Challenge is a wonderful way to promote wellbeing, bring people together and raise awareness of dementia while supporting the Alzheimer’s Society.”

Alexandra House Care Home is inviting families, friends and members of the wider community to support the Strawberry Unit’s challenge and help make a difference to those affected by dementia.
