Baking Day Brings Generations Together at Jubilee Court Care Home for Glade to Care Week

Jubilee Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, was filled with the delightful scent of freshly baked sausage rolls on the 24th of May as residents teamed up with children from Holgate School for a special Baking Day event, held in celebration of Glade to Care Week. The Pen Pal Club organised this heartwarming event, bringing together different generations for a day of fun, creativity, and connection.

Residents and children worked side by side, sharing laughter and stories while crafting an array of uniquely shaped sausage rolls. The atmosphere was lively and filled with the sounds of enthusiastic chatter, showcasing the joy of intergenerational collaboration.

A highlight of the day was the participation of one of Jubilee Court’s most senior residents, a spirited 97-year-old who stood proudly to contribute her baking skills. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious, serving as a beautiful reminder that age is no barrier to participation and enjoyment.

This activity not only bridges generational gaps but also provides a relaxed environment to practice communication and collaboration skills. Ann, a resident from Jubilee Court care home, said, “Having a pen pal is pretty amazing; it’s like having a good friend to share your hobbies with.”

Baking is an inclusive activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. Through events like this, our residents have the opportunity to form and maintain strong bonds, enriching their social lives and creating lasting memories. This Baking Day with Holgate School children was a shining example of this mission in action.
