The team at Blackthorns care home, in Halstead, Essex, have embraced the celebrations, following the positive news on their recent CQC inspection.
The team were overjoyed to receive their improved rating, which saw the service step up from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ in all key areas, following their most recent inspection from the Care Quality Commission.
The CQC report published on the 10th of March, following an inspection during the month of February 2023, found: “There was a pleasant and sociable dining experience for people, and a choice of appetizing food served in line with people’s needs and preferences. Staff were available to support and encourage people with their meals.”
Observations from the glowing CQC report also noted that the home is “Promoting a positive culture that is person-centred, open, inclusive and empowering, which achieves good outcomes for people, with a relative noting that the ‘registered manager seems very good and very professional.”
Jo Robbin-Coker, Home Manager for Blackthorns, and her wider team have worked exceptionally hard to put strategies and processes in place to improve the service. The team were delighted to see the hard work from everyone in the home reflected in their new official rating.
Jo said: “We have all worked so hard over the last few years at Blackthorns and we are thrilled to have achieved a positive GOOD rating with CQC in all key areas. I believe that resident, relative and staff involvement in the daily operations has really contributed to our success’.

Blackthorns care home is a 58 bed home situated in the rural village of Halstead in North Essex.
