Welcome to Blackthorns. Situated in rural village of Halstead, North Essex, our 58-bed
residential and dementia care home offers person-centred care and an established community
for our residents to thrive. At Blackthorns, we place a real emphasis on celebrating the lives of
each and every one of our residents.

All of the bedrooms at Blackthorns are beautifully furnished, with 20 benefitting from en-suite
bathroom facilities. Facilities available for the enjoyment of residents include a café,
comfortable and sociable dining, several beautiful lounges, a hairdressing salon, corridor snugs
and courtyard garden areas.

Blackthorns offers a varied activity plan providing residents with a rich and engaging lifestyle –
as well as a comfortable and welcoming care home environment in which to live.

At Blackthorns care home, health and wellbeing is a top priority. Our friendly and professional
team offers diverse types of care to meet a variety of needs, including residential care,
dementia care and respite care.

Meet Our Home Manager

Flavia Poplauschi

My name is Flavia and I am the Home Manager at Blackthorns. I joined Runwood Homes in 2012 as a care assistant. During my time with Runwood Homes, I have had the opportunity to develop and progress, first of all as a Care Team Leader, then Deputy Manager prior to my registration as the Home Manager at Blackthorns.

I have achieved an NVQ level 5 in management and courses in management and leadership. I consider myself to be efficient, knowledgeable and well organise, skills that support me within my role as a registered manager for Blackthorns care home. I hope you feel free to visit our lovely home and look forward to welcoming you.

At Runwood Homes, we offer a full food and dining menu consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner along with snacks to suit all dietary requirements. For residents requiring IDDSI modified food, rest assured that your loved one’s needs will also be catered for. We take into account meal preferences from each resident in our care and aim to provide their favourite meals that they are used to.

Activities & Events

Your loved one will benefit from a dedicated Lifestyle Coordinator within the home; they will organise and encourage social interactions with a range of engaging activities. The Lifestyle Coordinator will create an activity calendar taking into account your loved one’s interests and varying needs. Activities may include music and singing sessions, arts and crafts, bingo, baking and visits to outside attractions etc.
