Residents at Bracebridge Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a delightful afternoon of sunshine, music and reminiscing as they came together to celebrate National Picnic Day on 18 June.
The home’s courtyard garden was transformed into the perfect picnic setting, where residents were treated to a delicious selection of sandwiches, cakes, crisps and refreshing choc ices, which quickly became the favourite treat of the day.
The celebration was organised by Lifestyle Support team member Elaine Brown, with support from carers Josh and Hakim, creating an enjoyable outdoor experience that encouraged residents to socialise, relax and make the most of the warm weather.
The afternoon was filled with music, singing and lively conversation as residents shared fond memories of taking their own children on family picnics in the park. The nostalgic conversations brought smiles, laughter and a wonderful sense of togetherness.
Residents thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and were keen to share their thoughts.
Bryan, Resident Ambassador, said:
“I have had such a lovely day. A big thank you to everyone who organised it for us.”
Resident Annette added:
“It is so nice to chat and be in the sunshine, and choc ices bring back memories for me!”
The picnic highlighted the importance of meaningful activities that promote social interaction, emotional wellbeing and reminiscence. Spending time outdoors in the fresh air, sharing food and conversation, and enjoying music together helped strengthen friendships and foster a strong sense of community within the home.
The event formed part of Bracebridge Court’s ongoing commitment to providing engaging, person-centred activities that support residents’ wellbeing while creating special moments.
