On the 21st of January, Bramwell Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, welcomed the beloved special pet dog, Nancy, for her monthly visit. This ongoing initiative, organised by Home Manager Mable Joloza, continues to bring joy, comfort, and emotional well-being to the residents.
Nancy’s visits have become a much-anticipated highlight for the residents. Maureen, a resident, expressed her feelings, saying:
“Seeing Nancy makes me calm and peaceful; I’m eagerly waiting for the next visit.”
During her visits, Nancy engages in therapeutic activities with the residents, offering love, companionship, and moments of peace. Residents, family members, and staff all benefit from these interactions, with many residents spending time petting and playing with the friendly dog.
A heartwarming moment occurred when one of the residents, overcome with emotion, gave Nancy a hug and a kiss. The room filled with cheers and smiles, showcasing just how powerful these visits are.
The idea for Nancy’s visits originated from noticing the positive reactions residents had to family pets when they visited the home. Mable Joloza reached out to Rachel, a former Bramwell employee who owns Nancy, and since then, Nancy has been a regular monthly guest at Bramwell, bringing love and joy to the community.
“The atmosphere during Nancy’s visits is always incredible,” said Mable. “She offers unconditional love and companionship, which makes such a positive difference to our residents’ well-being.”
Nancy’s monthly visits are a beautiful reminder of the power of pet therapy in enhancing the mental and emotional health of the residents, providing a calming and joyful presence.
