Residents, families, and staff at Brewster House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on 8 May 2026 to celebrate VE Day with a heartwarming afternoon of music, dancing, and remembrance during a special singalong event featuring talented singer Tessa.
The celebration was organised after residents shared their wishes to mark the important historical occasion with live entertainment. Lifestyle Coordinator Leoni arranged for Tessa to perform, creating a special afternoon filled with wartime classics alongside favourite hits from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.
The event brought together residents, their loved ones, staff, and visitors, all joining in with singing, dancing, flag waving, and smiles throughout the afternoon. The joyful atmosphere reflected the significance of VE Day for many residents, several of whom have personal memories connected to the original celebrations.
Resident Shirley praised the performance, saying: “What a wonderful afternoon. Tessa is a brilliant singer — she should be famous.”
One of the standout moments of the day came at the end of the performance when many residents expressed how much they had enjoyed the event and asked for Tessa to return again in the future.
Lifestyle Coordinator Leoni said the event was especially meaningful because residents had been involved in choosing the entertainment and discussing how they wanted to celebrate VE Day together.
