Conquering new heights and personal goals to support Windle Court care home

Five family members of a resident at Windle Court care home in South Woodham Ferrers, are taking on the challenge to climb Pen Y Fan in Wales, on the 28th of April, to raise money for the home.

The challenge set to climb the mountain is a personal one for Chris Cooper, whose mother-in-law resides at Windle Court. The aim is to raise money for a digital rainbow board in the home, which will be used, along with traditional activities, to offer residents an opportunity to engage in new fun digital experiences.

The mountain climb will be 886m high and is classified as the highest peak in South Wales.

In the lead up to the day, Chris Cooper and his family will be getting in peak physical fitness to complete the climb.

So far, the family has managed to raise an impressive 270 pounds.

Home Manager for Windle Court care home, Lorraine Taylor, said: “When Chris approached us with the opportunity to fundraise for the home we felt so honoured that he would be taking on this tough challenge to climb Pen Y Fan in Wales. We are so grateful to have such a loving, supportive family, take on the challenge to help raise the funds needed for a dementia touch screen rainbow board; a fantastic addition for all the residents, especially those who are unable to leave their rooms. We all go above and beyond for our residents and for our community, so I am very proud of Chris for braving the climb; we will all be supporting them every step of the way.”

Chris said: “The home has been incredible with my mother-in-law since she arrived so we wanted to do something to give back to the home; by climbing South Wales highest peak, to raise funds for a digital rainbow board. This will be a very difficult physical challenge, training very hard and getting our fitness levels up in preparation for the mountain climb in April. This is very personal to all of us and we are all very determined to reach the top and show our appreciate for the wonderful staff at the home.”
