Residents at Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed a wonderfully creative arts and crafts morning, where they came together to make homemade bird feeders designed to brighten the courtyard and attract more wildlife for everyone to enjoy.
The activity, which took place on 27th May 2026, saw residents working alongside Lifestyle Coordinator Kelley to create unique bird feeders using orange peels. Residents carefully threaded wooden rods through the peel, attached hanging strings, and filled the finished feeders with bird seed before proudly hanging them around the courtyard.
The idea for the activity was inspired by a simple moment outdoors. While spending time in the courtyard with a resident, Kelley noticed birds nearby and suggested creating bird feeders to attract even more birds for residents to observe and admire. The idea was warmly received and quickly turned into a hands-on craft session that sparked enthusiasm throughout the home.
Resident Julie shared her delight following the activity, saying:
“I had so much fun making the bird feeders. I have never seen them made like that before, and they looked really pretty in the courtyard.”
Lifestyle Coordinator Kelley also reflected on the success of the session, commenting:
“It was so much fun making these bird feeders with our residents, and we are even planning on making our own bird food soon too.”
The activity was an excellent opportunity for residents to express their creativity, engage their imagination, and enjoy meaningful time together. It also created a beautiful new feature for the Liberty House courtyard, providing residents with the chance to watch and appreciate visiting birds in the days ahead.
