Strong family bonds continue to play an important role in daily life at Evelyn May House, part of the Runwood Homes Group,, as resident Valerie enjoys regular visits and meaningful connections with her loved ones, both near and far.

Recently, Valerie was delighted to welcome a visit from her granddaughter Rosie, who studies Geography at university in St Andrews. During the holidays, Rosie makes time to visit her nan, and the pair enjoy sharing quality moments together, including playing cards, completing word searches, and catching up on each other’s lives. Valerie was visibly happy during the visit, enjoying hearing about Rosie’s university experiences and all that she has been up to.

Kerry and Dawn, Lifestyle Coordinators at Evelyn May House, shared:

“When Rosie visited, Valerie was extremely happy to see her. She loved hearing about everything Rosie has been doing and listening to her university experience.”

Christine, Deputy Manager at Evelyn May House, added:

“It’s lovely to see the bond between grandparent and grandchild.”

Valerie also maintains strong connections with her wider family through daily FaceTime calls, including regular contact with her son who lives in Hong Kong. Valerie has visited Hong Kong three times and fondly recalls those experiences, which remain very special memories for her.

Speaking about her family, Valerie said:

“My family are the most important people to me. Even though I moved to Evelyn May, I still get regular visits and I always love seeing their faces on FaceTime.”

The atmosphere during Rosie’s visit was emotional yet upbeat, filled with shared stories and lots of laughter. These moments highlight the importance of supporting family relationships within the care home, helping residents maintain a strong sense of identity, belonging, and happiness.

Evelyn May House is committed to encouraging and supporting meaningful family connections, ensuring residents continue to feel close to the people who matter most to them.
