Residents from Rosedale Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed a memorable day out on Friday 30th May, with a special Make a Wish trip for resident Reginald, fondly known as Reg. The outing, designed to honour Reg’s wish to revisit his childhood hometown of Maldon, was combined with a scenic bus trip for fellow residents, creating a day full of joy, nostalgia, and community spirit.
The group began their adventure with a gentle stroll along Maldon Promenade, soaking up the fresh sea breeze and stopping to enjoy local delicacies such as crabsticks and cockles. The beach was alive with the sound of laughter as the residents reminisced, watched children playing, and even encountered friends from Loganberry Lodge, another care home in the Runwood Homes Group.
One of the most touching moments came from Reg himself, who shared vivid and humorous stories of his teenage years in Maldon. “It was really good to visit my old stomping ground,” he said. “I have lots of funny memories.” His tales of youthful adventures, including visits to the promenade to “meet all the girls,” had everyone laughing and listening intently.
The day continued with a leisurely walk to The Queens Head Public House where residents enjoyed a traditional lunch—fish and chips being the clear favourite—rounded off perfectly with a classic seaside ice cream.
The atmosphere throughout the day was light-hearted, warm, and full of laughter—an uplifting experience for all involved and a wonderful reminder of the power of shared stories and cherished memories.
