Residents at Mulberry Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group were treated to a delightful surprise when a traditional ice cream van rolled up to serve scoops of joy on a warm summer day. This simple yet heartwarming event brought together residents and staff for a lovely moment.
The mobile ice cream van offered a wide range of classic flavours, which residents enjoyed outdoors in a relaxed atmosphere.
“This activity not only helped residents cool down, but it also encouraged social interaction and supported overall wellbeing,” said Bhashia Jayalinda Deegalla. “It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and reliving fond summer memories.”
There was plenty of positive feedback from both residents and staff:
“Oh this is so lovely, just look at the smiles on their faces,” said Kirsty Edger, Lifestyle Coordinator at Mulberry Court.
“Aww, this is so nice to see them all happy,” added Chelsea Turner, Care Assistant.
Resident Marie Childs shared, “I haven’t had ice cream from a van in years.”
The event was a standout success, drawing enthusiastic participation even from residents who don’t typically join group activities. It was a day full of treats, and treasured memories; a perfect reminder of how small joys can make the biggest impact.
