Loganberry Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, proudly commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8th May with a vibrant garden and street party that brought together residents, staff, and families for a truly special occasion.
The celebration featured a delightful musical performance from the talented Jo Street and her father, creating a joyful atmosphere full of nostalgia and community spirit. Residents from all units gathered outdoors to enjoy tea, cake, and a classic singalong, echoing the lively street parties many remembered from their childhoods.
The event concluded with a traditional British lunch of pie, mash, and liquor, followed by a much-loved dessert of jam roly poly with custard — a nod to the wartime era and a comforting treat for all.
The idea for the event was inspired by conversations with residents who fondly recalled their childhood memories of VE Day celebrations. Recognising the significance of this milestone, the team at Loganberry Lodge ensured the day was marked with the tradition, warmth, and reverence it deserved. Residents and families all commented on how lovely the morning was and how much they enjoyed it.
The celebration not only honoured an important moment in history but also created new moments of joy and connection for everyone involved.
