Residents and volunteers at Longview Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together on Monday 16th June to celebrate the beauty of summer through a much-loved annual tradition, harvesting lavender from the home’s garden and creating scented sachets to hang in wardrobes.

The activity brought together fresh air, gentle exercise, and meaningful creativity.

Jo, the daughter of resident Hazel, commented, “It was so lovely doing this activity as it incorporated going for a walk in the sunshine, then getting crafty and making up the bags with a nice cuppa.”

Residents also showed kindness and thoughtfulness by making extra lavender bags to deliver to those unable to leave their rooms, bringing both the scent and spirit of summer indoors.

A standout moment came when the group filled an entire box with their completed sachets, beaming with pride at their collective achievement. The atmosphere throughout the day was calm, joyful, and full of connection.

The annual lavender harvest is a cherished tradition at Longview, celebrating nature, wellbeing, and community, reminding us all how the simplest activities often bring the greatest joy.
