Lower Meadow Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, celebrated Onam, the traditional harvest festival of Kerala, with vibrant colours, cultural traditions, and great music, creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.
As part of the celebration, staff dressed in traditional Onam saris and performed the graceful Thiruvathirakali dance. Residents, staff, and families enjoyed delicious food served on fresh banana leaves, joined in traditional games, sang songs, and embraced the beauty of Indian culture.
Home Manager at Lower Meadow Rachel Walker said:
“It was such a wonderful occasion that truly reflected the spirit of inclusivity at Lower Meadow. Celebrating festivals like Onam brings our team closer together while giving residents the opportunity to learn about and share in different cultures.”
Residents praised the celebration, commenting on the beautiful colours, the flavourful food, and the joy of watching staff and families dance. They especially loved having staff children join in, adding to the sense of community and cultural appreciation.
The atmosphere throughout the day was described as “immense” and deeply spiritual, with staff members from outside the Indian community expressing how honoured they felt to be welcomed into the traditions of Onam.
The highlight? Quite simply, the entire event, from start to finish.
