In a delightful celebration of Runwood Homes group monthly dignity theme, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, 18 residents from Maun View care home went on an enchanting day out at Willow Tree Family Farm on the 10th of May. This heartwarming excursion aimed to give residents a rare opportunity to interact closely with a variety of animals, enhancing their well-being and connection to the community.
Maun View Care Home organised a special trip, transporting residents to Willow Tree Family Farm in the home’s minibus. The day was filled with joyful activities as residents walked around the farm, enjoyed a picnic, and took part in a special ‘meet and greet’ session with the animals. This included petting and stroking a variety of creatures, such as an alpaca, a baby goat, a bearded dragon, and a corn snake, much to the delight of all attendees. Jane, a resident at Maun View, expressed “The trips are good. At the farm they bought us a baby goat who was only three weeks old, that was nice, and it was a nice day for it too.”
This outing was more than just a day trip; it was an essential activity for the well-being of the residents. Interacting with animals has been shown to have numerous benefits, including reducing anxiety and improving moods.
Sam Bernard, Home Manager at Maun View Care Home, expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the event, stating:
“Having the luxury of a minibus to enable us to ensure residents are accessing the community is such an amazing resource. To take eighteen residents, many of whom live with dementia, out to the farm park was incredible. We would like to thank the very helpful and generous staff team at Willow Tree Family Farm for making the day so special and rewarding for the residents.”
