Residents at Park View Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a nostalgic celebration as the home hosted a special Fish and Chip Day to mark National Fish and Chip Day, bringing back fond memories of traditional visits to the local chip shop.
The event took place on 6 June 2026 and saw residents gather together to enjoy one of Britain’s most loved meals while sharing stories and memories with friends and staff. The atmosphere throughout the day was cheerful, relaxed, and full of laughter as conversations flowed and residents reflected on happy experiences from their past.
To make the occasion even more authentic, the team focused on recreating the traditional chip shop experience that many residents remembered from their younger years. The familiar sights, smells, and flavours sparked memories and encouraged residents to share stories of family outings and trips to their local fish and chip shop.
Resident Gordon thoroughly enjoyed the event and commented: “This was a great idea.”
One of the standout moments of the day was watching residents reminisce about visiting chip shops in years gone by. Many smiled as familiar memories came flooding back, prompting laughter, storytelling, and meaningful conversations among friends and staff alike.
The event highlighted the important role reminiscence activities play in supporting emotional wellbeing. By recreating familiar experiences, residents were able to connect with treasured memories, strengthen social connections, and enjoy a shared sense of nostalgia and community.
The success of the Fish and Chip Day reflects Park View’s ongoing commitment to providing engaging activities that promote wellbeing, encourage social interaction, and create meaningful moments for residents.
