Residents at Caldwell Grange care home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed an afternoon filled with music, dancing and cherished memories when live entertainer Sam Preston visited the home at the end of May.

The lively sing-along event brought together residents, staff, relatives and friends for an afternoon of entertainment, laughter and togetherness. Guests joined in with a variety of well-loved songs, many of which sparked fond memories and encouraged residents to get up and dance.

Organised by Wellbeing Lead Kirsty and supported by the lifestyle team, the event was designed to bring people together through the power of music. Familiar songs encouraged residents to reminisce about their younger years while creating new memories with friends, family and staff.

One of the highlights of the afternoon came when residents spontaneously took to the floor to dance and sing together, creating a joyful atmosphere throughout the home.

The positive impact of the event was reflected in feedback from residents and their families.

One resident commented that it was “the best afternoon they had.”

A relative added: “It was lovely to see my mother up and dancing like she used to. It was a side to her that I hadn’t seen in a while.”

Music-based activities play an important role in supporting emotional wellbeing, particularly for people living with dementia and other cognitive conditions. Familiar songs can help trigger memories, improve engagement and encourage social interaction, helping residents feel connected and valued.

The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was warm, friendly and full of energy, with residents singing along, interacting with one another and enjoying the sense of togetherness that live entertainment brings.

Events such as these continue to form an important part of life at Caldwell Grange, helping residents maintain social connections, celebrate shared experiences and enjoy meaningful moments with family and friends.
