Residents at The Mill House Care Home part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed an enriching and sociable visit to The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich, following a community-led decision to explore new and inspiring destinations.
The visit, which took place on 30 January 2026, was organised by Emma, Lifestyle Coordinator, with support from Beth, Minibus Driver, and was inspired by open discussions during resident meetings about places residents had not previously visited. Together, residents and staff expressed a shared interest in experiencing a location rich in culture and visual interest, leading to the selection of the art gallery.
The atmosphere throughout the trip was lively and engaging, with residents actively discussing the artwork, sharing opinions, and learning more about different artistic styles. Conversations flowed naturally as the group explored the gallery, discussing which pieces they enjoyed, disliked, or wanted to learn more about.
Residents shared very positive feedback, with comments including:
- “I’d love to go to an art gallery.”
- “I really enjoyed looking at the sculptures.”
- “What a great place to visit, I’m so glad I came out on the trip today.”
A highlight of the visit was meeting a gallery volunteer, who took time to explain the history of the Sainsbury Centre and provided insightful information about the artworks on display, answering residents’ questions and enhancing the learning experience.
This outing reflects the The Mill House’s commitment to facilitating meaningful, accessible activities that align with residents’ interests. By exploring art and culture together, residents were able to enjoy a stimulating, inclusive experience that encouraged learning, conversation, and shared enjoyment.
