Residents of Lower Meadow care home recently took part in a heartwarming trip to Brean Sands, marking a day filled with joy, laughter, and the simple pleasures of feeling the sand beneath their feet. The outing, which took place on Friday 2nd of August, was a significant moment for the eight residents and three dedicated staff members who accompanied them, along with the minibus driver who made the journey possible.
The trip was not just a day out; it was a deeply meaningful experience for the residents, some of whom never thought they would see the seaside again. The group spent the day on the beach, where they enjoyed ice cream, built sandcastles, and relished the warm sand between their toes. The excursion was particularly poignant for one resident living with terminal cancer, who had included this very experience on his bucket list. With no treatment options available and time being uncertain, the team at Lower Meadow made it a priority to fulfil his wish of feeling the sand between his toes once more. This moment of joy and fulfilment was shared by all, leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.
Rachel Walker, Home Manager at Lower Meadow, expressed her delight at the success of the trip. “We had an amazing day at the beach. The residents’ faces literally lit up when they realised we were going to spend the day on the beach! It was a very special day for us as we ticked another thing off our lovely resident’s bucket list. We are extremely grateful to Runwood Homes for their support in making this trip possible.”
The day at Brean Sands not only provided a much-needed change of scenery for the residents but also reinforced the importance of creating joyful and meaningful experiences, no matter the circumstances. The Runwood Homes group is committed to continuing their efforts to enrich the lives of their residents, one special moment at a time.
