LEST WE FORGET
On Monday, the 11th of November 2024, Park View Care Home, located in Witham, Essex, hosted a heartfelt Remembrance Day event, honouring the brave men and women who served the country. Although the home’s beloved resident, Arthur, was unable to attend due to illness, his daughter proudly wore his medals in his place, paying tribute to his bravery and legacy.
The event saw a warm gathering, with a heartfelt thank you extended to the nine other Runwood Homes that joined in this day of remembrance. The occasion began with a moving two-minute silence, allowing residents, staff, and guests to pause and reflect. This was followed by tea, scones, and cherished wartime songs performed by Carly, filling the room with nostalgia and sparking joyful sing-alongs and dancing.
Later in the day, the residents observed another moment of silence with a bugle call, before the Mayor of Witham Town Council joined the group, taking part in dancing and sharing lunch with the residents.
The day concluded with a beautiful performance by a 24-piece brass band, with special thanks to Bocking Concert Brass (BCB) for their contribution. Residents and their families gathered to listen to the moving music, creating a perfect ending to a truly unforgettable day.
Special thanks were also given to Tina from the Witham Hub for her support and involvement in planning and organising the event. The day was made even more meaningful with the presence of both veterans and active servicemen, bringing a profound sense of pride and respect to the celebration.
Diane Anderson, Lifestyle Coordinator at Park View Care Home, shared her gratitude: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made today so special. A big thank you to the amazing team for their hard work and dedication in bringing this event to life. The residents and families came together in a way that was truly inspiring, and the sense of community and respect was truly moving.”
Alex Sanders, the Manager of Park View Care Home, also expressed their pride, saying, “As the Manager of Park View, I am deeply proud of the dedication, compassion, and teamwork displayed today by our staff, residents, visitors, the community, veterans, and active servicemen. This event was a true reflection of the heart and spirit of everyone involved, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
