Residents at Liberty House Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, are proving that staying active can be both beneficial and fun, thanks to the efforts of our dedicated Lifestyle Coordinators, Jody Hughes and Kelley Norton. The duo ensures that exercise is not just about movement but also about joy, engagement, and social connection.
“We love having fun with our residents daily, and keeping them active is one of our priorities,” said Jody and Kelley. “If we are laughing while exercising, then we are happy too.”
One of the residents, Freda, aged 105, shared her enthusiasm for the classes: “I do enjoy their exercise classes. There is always something different, not the same all the time. We use different props, and they always make it so much fun. They adapt to us all.”
The “Fit and Fun” sessions take place every day, incorporating a variety of exercises tailored to the residents’ abilities. These classes aim to support both physical and mental well-being, improving balance, coordination, and memory while increasing blood flow to the brain. Most importantly, they create an uplifting and joyful atmosphere.
Jody and Kelley lead the classes, but all team members join in, including domestic staff, care team leaders, and carers, fostering a truly all-home approach.
The idea for these daily exercise sessions has been in place since Jody and Kelley took on their roles as Lifestyle Coordinators. The impact is evident in the laughter, singing, and smiles that fill the room during each session.
“The standout moments are when you see residents belly laughing—it’s a joy to witness,” said Jody.
By staying active and having fun together, the residents of Liberty House Care Home continue to enjoy life to the fullest, proving that age is just a number when it comes to movement and joy.
