Residents from Loganberry Lodge Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed an outing organised by the FANS Network. The group took a minibus journey into the heart of Colchester on Wednesday 7th May to mark Victory in Europe (VE) Day with an afternoon of remembrance and celebration at Colchester Castle.
“All the residents thoroughly enjoyed their day and stated how much fun they had,” commented Lifestyle Coordinator Katie.
The day began with a stroll around the castle grounds, where residents admired the beautiful flower displays in full bloom. A picnic lunch in the sunshine added to the relaxed and joyful atmosphere. The highlight of the afternoon was a special VE Day event inside the castle, which included moving speeches and a nostalgic performance by talented singer Nancy May, who brought wartime favourites to life and had everyone singing along.
A particularly emotional moment came when recordings of Winston Churchill’s iconic wartime speeches were played—bringing back powerful memories for many of the residents in attendance.
