Residents and staff at Jubilee Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together recently for a vibrant celebration in honour of Africa Day. The event was inspired by a staff member, Precious, who wanted to mark the occasion, and it blossomed into a colourful and lively gathering filled with music, food, and cultural appreciation.
The activity room was transformed into a vibrant space where residents, staff, and members of the wider community were invited to join in the celebrations. Many staff members embraced the spirit of the day, arriving in traditional and colourful African attire, while residents joined in the fun by donning unique and cheerful hats.
The culinary highlight of the event was a delicious spread of African dishes, lovingly prepared by some of Jubilee Court‘s African team members. From flavourful rice dishes to traditional favourites, the food showcased the rich diversity of African cuisine and brought everyone together in shared enjoyment.
Afrobeat music filled the air, creating a joyful atmosphere and inspiring dancing, laughter, and learning. The celebration was not only entertaining but also educational, offering an opportunity for residents and guests to learn more about African cultures, traditions, and the significance of Africa Day itself.
Deborah Mills, Lifestyle Coordinator, and Home Manager Heather Limb worked closely with staff member Precious to bring the event to life. Reflecting on the day, Precious shared that Africa Day is “something worldwide celebrated every year,” adding that it’s a day to celebrate the continent’s unity, diverse cultures and achievements.
The event was a meaningful and memorable occasion, reinforcing Jubilee Court’s commitment to inclusivity, celebration of culture, and community spirit.
