Woodbury Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was delighted to welcome Summer, a local student, for a two-week work experience placement over the past fortnight. Her time at the home was filled with meaningful connections and valuable learning experiences, both for Summer and the residents.

During her placement, Summer spent time engaging with residents, listening to their stories, and learning about life in a care setting. One particularly touching highlight was when resident Eleanor took the time to teach Summer how to knit, which captured the warmth and intergenerational bonds that define life at Woodbury Court.

“The whole team welcomed Summer with

open arms,” said Mel Oliver. “She brought such enthusiasm and positivity, and it was a joy to see her interact with the residents.”

Summer’s visit not only enhanced the daily environment at the home but also served an important purpose: inspiring the next generation of care professionals. Work experience placements like these help young people explore careers in social care, nursing, or related fields, fostering a deeper appreciation for the vital role care teams play in the community.

The opportunity came about through a partnership with a local school, and Woodbury Court regularly welcomes students for work placements. These programs bring fresh energy to the home while giving students hands-on insight into the compassionate world of care.

As Summer’s placement comes to an end, the team at Woodbury Court wishes her all the best and thank her for the kindness and joy she brought to everyone during her time with them.
