Residents at Silvanna Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently enjoyed an exciting day out as they took part in an inclusive cycling experience along the Southend seafront. The activity allowed wheelchair-using residents to enjoy specially adapted bike rides, creating lasting memories and plenty of smiles.
The idea for the outing came from Silvanna Court’s minibus driver, who recommended a local facility offering accessible cycling options. Eager to build on the success of a previous accessible ice-skating trip, the team embraced the opportunity to offer another inclusive and active experience.
The atmosphere was full of energy and excitement, with residents expressing their joy and surprise at the experience. Tony, one of the residents at Silvanna Court, commented, “What a marvellous concept to include people in wheelchairs,” while Ian added, “We went so fast — I loved it!”
The highlight of the day came when residents first got on the bikes and set off down the seafront. Many couldn’t quite believe what they were experiencing, and their reactions were a heartwarming reminder of the importance of inclusive activities.
