Residents and staff at Leatherland Lodge care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, were delighted to receive a generous £800 donation along with a range of exciting new items from the recent ‘Ladies Night’ event held at South Ockendon Village Social Club. The funds and gifts will directly support residents’ activities and Dolls Therapy. This wonderful contribution was made possible thanks to the fundraising event on 9 August 2025.

Hosted by Leia Jones, Ladies’ Night united members of the local community to raise funds for the residents’ amenities at Leatherland Lodge. The donation was inspired directly by Leia, who contacted the home to offer her support. Generous contributions like this are essential to the Residents Amenities Fund, helping to create a more engaging and fulfilling experience for all residents.

Cheryl Wirght, Manager at Leatherland Lodge said:

” I never imagined we would receive such a generous amount. She even asked if there was anything the home needed, so I mentioned a new BBQ and our plans to start Dolls Therapy and a Gentlemen’s Club. Thanks to her, we now have lovely Dolls to get us started, two cats that the residents have fallen in love with, and lots of garden games for activities. Leia also gave us some leftover cash, which we’re using to buy a pool table for the Gentlemen’s room. We are so grateful for her support.”

The event atmosphere was full of excitement and happiness, as residents eagerly anticipated the benefits of the new Dolls Therapy sessions. One of the highlights was the arrival of a brand-new BBQ, adding an extra touch of celebration to the festivities.
